I’m going to use a word, and I want you to remember the first thing that comes to mind when you see it, or hear it.
What did you think of? Some wannabe warriors who go off on weekends to pretend to be elite forces? Anti government zealots who would love nothing more than to bomb federal buildings? This guy?
You have been trained to think in a negative context when you hear the word “militia” and you don’t even know it. In all actuality, most of our modern militias are very well trained, and extraordinarily well organized. They train for a variety of situations, none of them anything like what happened in the movie “Red Dawn.” (Although technically, the Wolverines in that movie were a militia also.) Fact of the matter is, modern militias are more likely to look like this;
I want you to think of all the times that you have been given a message that served to brainwash you and your opinion of guns in general, as well as the people who use them. Remember Back to the Future 3? Marty McFly defeated Buford Tannen without using a gun that was given to him, by using a trick from a Clint Eastwood movie. This is Hollywood presents. If any of the movie actually could happen, when Marty was shot, boiler plate or not, he would be severely injured, if not dead.
Even in the beloved Star Wars movies. The revered Obi Wan Kenobi abhors blasters (guns). Quote; “Your father’s light saber. This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster; an elegant weapon for a more civilized age.” So guns are uncivilized, at least according to the Jedi. Who among their crew has one? Han Solo, who is a smuggler (criminal). The Jedi use light sabers, and the Empire (bad guys/police) use guns. Return of the Jedi saw the evil Empire, who use guns, defeated by teddy bears with sticks and stones.
Hollywood being out of ideas, they are taking a bunch of beloved shows from a while back and making them into movies. Remember Charlie’s Angels? Below is the logo from the original show, and then the logo from the movie.
Notice anything different about those logos? The one on the left is from the original series, the one on the right from the movie remake. There is something missing from the movie logo. There is no gun. Wonder why that would be? For me the answer is easy. That doesn’t fit into the Hollywood idea about guns. They aren’t bad guys, and they aren’t actual police officers. Remember, only cops and bad guys have guns.
You see it all over the place. Movies, television, even in the news. Someone gets their house raided for whatever reason and they claim that an “arsenal” was found. Two guns and 100 rounds of ammo. That’s not an arsenal, but that’s what it is sold as. It is in order to make you fear guns, and gun owners.
These are just a handful of examples. There are myriads more. All of this just adds to the message that has been constantly shoved down your throat; “Only bad guys and cops have guns.” And if you believe that, you have been successfully brainwashed.
